Second Grade Crazy Chameleons

Second Graders painted an ABC pattern of three colors on a triangular shaped paper. They they added stamped textures with a variety of colors on top. The triangles were folded and cut to create the bended, curved shape that you see. Students used a variety of scraps of paper to cut and fold and glue the head, arms and legs together. It was fun to see how happy they were to make these! Most even gave their new friend its very own name!

Kindergarten Sculpture Hats

Add caption

Normally, in Kindergarten art we make a crazy sculpture with folded and cut paper. This year we took that idea and turned them into CRAZY HATS! They LOVED this project, and kindergarteners are silly enough to actually wear them! (This is what I love about them!) We used markers to decorate the "base" of our sculpture and then cut strips of paper in zig zag, wavy and straight lines. We used an accordian fold and curling fold method to make the papers "Pop" off our base. For a final touch, we added sequins and foam shapes, and anything else we could find. I stapled them together and.....well.....they were crazy.....but CRAZY AWESOME!

Kindergarten Sculptures

Kindergarten artists are learning about 3-d artwork, in particular Sculptures! We discuss the difference between drawings and sculptures, and what they notice is that sculptures stand up and are made of a variety of different shapes, lines and materials. We used toothpicks and modeling clay to build our sculptures. Students took a block of clay and rolled it into 8 spheres. They had to choose to make the bottom of the sculpture a triangle with three sides, or a square with 4. Then they could add toothpicks and more clay spheres to make it stand up. The final step is to add dots of glue to all of the nooks and crannies and at the bottom to make them more secure!

Fourth Grade Art Club Paper Mache Letters

Students in my after school art club have been building these amazing paper mache letters. They start by cutting cardboard initials of their name. We hot glue paper towel tubes to add a space in between. Students then tape the sides completely. Then the fun of paper mache begins!!! We paper mache first with newspaper, then white paper, and then tissue paper (which completely stains their hands). After the paper mache is dry, students can glue on little details with buttons and strings. They also can paint or sharpie designs on top of their letter. These do take a long time to complete, but are well worth it! I will add more pictures as soon as this closet full are finished!
