Fourth Grade Under The Sea

Students drew sea creatures from observation by looking at a picture of their animal and trying to recreate what they saw on their paper. We covered their pencil lines with glue at the end of the first class. The next week we discussed the color wheel and good color sets to blend in their pictures. Students used chalk to blend colors together to complete these amazing pictures. Excellent job fourth grade!!

Kindergarten Warm and Cool Sunsets

In Kindergarten, we discussed colors that made us feel warm and colors that made us feel cool. We created these beautiful sunsets by using watercolor crayons and making an AB pattern in the sky. We used cut paper and crayons to make the cute boats sailing in the foreground. Super cute!

Fourth Grade Matisse Collages

In fourth grade we viewed and discussed the work of Henri Matisse. We created our background by cutting a variety of shapes with regular scissors and some with crazy line scissors. We used Wooden Mannequins to draw the shapes for our people and cut them in the style of the Matisse collage, La Negresse to show spaces in between. Students completed their work by adding some interesting tribal clothes. I found this project on Deep Space Sparkle. Enjoy!

First Grade Snowmen Collage

We read the story "Snowmen at Night" to inspire our art for this project. We also looked at collages by Henri Matisse and discussed how he would cut paper and glue it back together in interesting ways to make his art. I had to add some glitter to these....if you know me....you know I love glitter!!!!!

Third Grade "The Scream"

Third Grade students viewed art work that showed emotion. We looked at a variety of work from different artists to show how the style of their art could reflect an emotion that they were feeling. Students then recreated their own version of Edvard Munch's "The Scream", but added their own self portrait in the foreground. Always one of my favorite paintings!

Kannapolis Christmas Card Display

Kannapolis Parks and Rec. contacted local schools to enter a Giant Christmas card display contest. A group of fifth grade art club students  painted this amazing mural on a large sheet of plywood for the contest. Students drafted ideas on sketch paper and then combined their ideas to make this awesome piece. Our work was displayed during the Christmas season in the park at Kannapolis.

Fifth Grade Banyan Trees

Fifth Grade students learned about the Banyan Tree. We talked about symbolism and how some cultures believe the banyan tree represents everlasting life. Students painted their tree with black acrylic paint. Oil pastels were used to complete the work and to add a reflection.

Beautiful work 5th Grade !
